Alone

Today there was no sudden epiphany on the life we’re living.
No wonderful words of wisdom.

The sun was shining.  I was standing in the chicken yard
throwing dried corn at them. Everyone else was busy with
the chores of the day. Mainly getting to some storage
stuff we have yet to touch. We are barely settled into our
roadside motel rooms. The essentials came first. Planting
food, etc.

So I was standing in the sunlight. Surrounded by chickens.
I have never felt so alone in my life.

In the before. When you found yourself alone you really weren’t.
Someone, somewhere knew where you were. Or where you’d
be. Someone. Even if they didn’t know exactly where you stood.
Someone could at least pinpoint the country you were in.

Now. There IS no one to know where you are. And I was thinking
about this. Surrounded by stinky chickens. And all I wanted to
do was scream, “I’m STILL HERE!!! I’m STILL HERE!!!”
